Ski Lifts & Snow Cannons
Exciting times here in Chamonix, with lots of new projects being discussed and finally put down on paper with completion dates.
The Flégère has been a real focus point for the CMB this year with lots of work already carried out and lots more planned for the upcoming seasons. The “HOME” run has already been enlarged with much wider corners and a constant pitch from the top all the way down to the bottom Couloir exit. This will hopefully allow more space for people to slow down before the switch backs, thus reducing the amount of snow scrapped off in certain areas. Due to concerns from ecologists the current lake thats used for artificial snow can not be made any bigger, therefore a pipeline will be put in place to bring water up from the valley floor. There will be a series of new snow cannons on the lower stretches of the home run, this will all be done in unity with the installation of the new telecabin!
This is scheduled for the 2019/20 season.
The Savoy Beginners area is also being installed with a much bigger better artificial snow set up.
This is scheduled for the 2017/18 season.
The Grands Montets has already completed a 1,4 million euro project to install a series of snow cannons close to the Lognan mid station. The plans to replace the Marmottons & Tabé chairlifts have been bought forward to next year as well, a one job does it all chairlift will be installed in their place. Talks are also underway to work on a new beginners ski area.
This is scheduled for the 2018/19 season.
Le Tour has been in need of a new telebabin for many years, quite often shut for high winds or just mechanical issues. The works were planned to be done by this year but due to complications with the local community of Le Tour the project needs a lot more planning and discussion. Plans were made to put the new telecabin at the bottom of the carpark with a longer piste being made to come down the side of the carpark on the field, the local community believe they could be missing out on a lot of their all important winter customers.
This is scheduled for the 2019/20 season.
