Wednesday afternoon, a 46 year old Swiss woman fell while skiing down the Cosmiques couloir in the Mont-Blanc massif.
A 33 year old skier sadly lost his life yesterday in the Aiguilles Rouges high above Chamonix.
The young man was skiing with a guide when he fell the wrong side of this steep decent, sadly resulting in a fall of 400 metres.
The rescuers set up a RDV with an experienced piste grooming operator, who bought them to the cliffs edge just under the Chalet lognon, they went on to set up a rope winch.
It quickly came apparent that his situation was extremely serious with only minutes left to get the man to hospital, a Chamonix PGHM helicopter was scrambled to the scene.
It was initially reported that he had a pole planted in his thigh, but there was no sign of this. The rescuers went on to explain that it was in fact his razor sharp edges that cut so badly into his leg.
Two speedriders took off from the same area, when the other realised that his friend was not following him, he alerted the PGHM.
Six call outs were made throughout the day, involving both helicopters with a doctor onboard from Sallanches hospital.
The 53 year old was a regular climber when on vacation here in Chamonix.
