November 30th, two Italian skiers, Edoardo Camardella and Luca Martini, were killed by an avalanche on the Italian side of Mont-Blanc.
Aged 28 and 32, the two experienced skiers were also instructors and well known figures on both sides of the Mont Blanc. They took the SkyWay cable car to reach the Helbronner point, which stands at more than 3400 m, it had just reopened that day.
With over 1.50m of fresh snow in little over a week the mountains are still very unstable. The avalanche was spotted and the rescue services were alerted straight away. Two bodies were later found and repatriated to Courmayeur.
