A 33 year old skier sadly lost his life yesterday in the Aiguilles Rouges high above Chamonix.
An avalanche occured on the steep face of l’aiguille de Praz-Torrent, the mans lifeless body was found at the bottom of the 2 573m cliff face. The man was partially buried under heavy spring snow, plus the lack of witnesses means that we do not know if the man set off the avalanche himself or it started from above.
The disappearance of the skier was reported by one of his friends on Saturday at around 19 hours at the gendarmerie Vallorcine.
The PGHM first drove to the car park where he had left his car to see if he had returned, with the car still there the PGHM launched Dragon74 to fly over the area.
They spotted an ice axe and a ski planted high up in the chute, the man was found 5OO metres below
Our thoughts & prayers our with the young man’s friends & family.
