Last Wednesday whilst skiing off piste at the Grands Montets ski area, a british man cut open his femoral artery.
The accident took place just to the left of the Blanchots piste at around midday.
Luckily for the skieur a passing soldier acted quickly applying a tourniquet to the 15cm long wound.
It was initially reported that he had a pole planted in his thigh, but there was no sign of this. The rescuers went on to explain that it was in fact his razor sharp edges that cut so badly into his leg.
The londoner was medevaced to Sallanches Hospital where he was later taken to Annemasse with a confirmed cut femoral artery.
