Max Bonniot et Pierre Labbre, Chamonix News

Two of the worlds best climbers lost their lives on Aiguille du Plan in the Mont Blanc massif.

Such sad news in yesterday concerning two of the most talented alpinists currently climbing the globe.

Max Bonniot and Pierre Labbre were discovered early yesterday morning on Aiguille du Plan by the Chamonix PGHM.

The two climbers set off tuesday morning to climb the Bonington route up the Aiguille du Plan, alas nothing was heard from them throughout the day.  Friends and colleges alerted the PGHM early yesterday morning when there was still no news.  A helicopter found the two bodies at the base of the gully, it’s thought that they slipped whilst roped together.

Max Bonniot 31 years old was a member of France’s elite Groupe militaire de haute montagne (GMHM).

Pierre Labbre 38 years old was a mountain guide working for the Compagnie de guides de Chamonix Mont Blanc.

The two climbers are famed for climbing huge walls from Nepal to Patagonia.

Our thoughts go out to their friends & families.
