Aiguille Pourrie | Planet Chamonix

Wednesday 22nd August, a young mountaineer suffered a fatal fall while climbing the Aiguille Pourrie.  The face is well known and busy both in winter and summer.

The victim of the fall was a doctor from the small town of Magland (Half an hour drive down from Chamonix)

At the time of the fall he was accompanied by his father and brother on the Fontès de Jouvence route.

According to the PGHM the climber was at the top of the rope and was leading the climb, he was correctly secured but unfortunately the block on which he had secured himself detached.  The block dragged him over the cliff edge and killed him instantly.
