After 65 years of service the girls are finally going into retirement.
News in from Compagnie du Mont Blanc is that a 1 million euro investment is underway to find ways to modernise this iconic line.
Sadly the girls Anne, Marie and Jeanne will be phased out, they’ve been in service for 65 years and are the names of the three daughters of the line’s owner at the time of electrification.
A new modern station will be constructed at the summit similar to the current Montenvers station.
The first section of the line to the Col de Voza was opened in 1907. The line reached its current terminus in August 1914 when work was suspended because of World War I, and never resumed. The line was worked by steam locomotives until it was electrified in 1956.

Feel so privileged to have ridden in Jeanne. It was a fabulous experience, stepping back in time but still practical too.
